During February we took 12 young people on a city trip to Manchester.
The group met at Euston and travelled together on the train to Manchester city Centre. After a quick refreshment break the group took a walking route along the city’s canals whilst having discussions about Manchester as an historic centre for industry and commerce in the UK.
The group then visited the People’s Museum and learned about the workers’ rights history in Manchester and its links with both the transatlantic slave trade and Russian Communist Party. After a reflection session to explore young people’s personal connections to these themes, we took the tram to the Quayside for a traditional dosa meal at sunset, offered by the Family of our former Intern Swas Anand.
Most of the young people had never tried Indian food before and it was the group’s first time trying dosas – it went down a treat and was a very much a highlight of the day.
After this we took a brief stop at the Manchester United stadium where young people got to visit the stadium shop, before getting a tram back to the city centre and heading back to London.
