Vessel UK
What is Vessel UK?
The VESSEL UK is a unique, intentional programme where young individuals from the UK are connected with their peers from our partner organisations across Africa. Here, our young people collaborate to connect, learn, and share their skills, creating a powerful alumni of young leaders.
The Vessel UK has facilitated global learning for young people since 2004, connecting young people from the UK, both remotely and directly, with peers in our partner organisations worldwide. This work enables young individuals to gain a better understanding of their position in the world, and to examine their values through training, collaborative learning, and skill sharing. Together, they engage in the creation of socially responsible and sustainable projects.
The initiative is funded through independent fundraising by young people, who work within their communities, organisations, and universities, or receive support from partnerships with companies or key actors, such as the Daneford Trust.
Vessel UK is more than a training programme; it’s an opportunity for participants to create meaningful, socially responsible, and sustainable projects. Over two decades we have led these projects through our partnerships in Tanzania, Kenya, and The Gambia, fostering impactful projects and cross-cultural connections. Our vision is to open up horizons and enable cultural awakening in the lives of our participants by facilitating ethical and socially responsible projects developed through active research, skill sharing and the application of lived experiences.
The Vessel UK offers
- Training from industry experts
- Application of learning from education
- Acquisition of new skills and knowledge
- Project development and delivery learning
- Leadership development
- Global learning
Who is Vessel UK for?
We are especially keen for young people from disadvantaged communities, especially those who have been a part of our KORI Youth journey to take part. The Vessel UK programme is also available to individuals, colleges, universities and organisations in the UK who want to be involved.
Vessel UK’s Impact
Since 2004, The Vessel UK has enabled hundreds of individuals and many organisations to share their skills with young people and our partners in Tanzania, Kenya and The Gambia. It is a great opportunity for learning, including project management and leadership skills.
Vessel UK with African Partners
We have a strong commitment to creating meaningful international partnerships and this programme is a collaborative venture – we ensure extensive preparation takes place at both ends, avoiding any misconceptions from everyone on the programme. By supporting teachers and conducting surveys with the young people, the project aims to serve youth on both sides of the partnership.
