Cooking Project

We have some exciting news to share — KORI has been awarded £1000 through the Jack Petchey Leader Award Fund. This is a very special award, because it puts young people right at the centre of change. We can nominate an inspiring youth leader to design and deliver a project that responds to community needs.

Launching this July, Finding Food Freedom is a six-month, hands-on programme designed to help young people build confidence in the kitchen and beyond, because it’s not just about cooking. It’s about developing life skills, independence, creativity, and wellbeing.

During the programme, participants will:

  • Learn how to prepare healthy, affordable meals using fresh ingredients
  • Build practical cooking skills step-by-step
  • Explore culturally rich recipes that reflect their identities and experiences
  • Gain knowledge to make informed food choices for life

This project idea was shaped by the young people we work with who have repeatedly shared challenges around:

  • Limited access to nutritious food
  • Lack of confidence in cooking
  • Wanting more opportunities to learn essential life skills

Finding Food Freedom is our response—a programme built not only to teach skills, but to empower young people to take control of their own wellbeing.

Limited access to nutritious food

  • Lack of confidence in cooking
  • Wanting more opportunities to learn essential life skills

In July across our youth hubs we’ll be eager to see young people:

  • Experiment with new flavours
  • Build confidence in the kitchen
  • Connect with each other through food

This is a chance to create lasting change, one meal at a time. Stay tuned for updates!
