My name is Ansel Balla, and I’ve just arrived in London, buzzing with excitement for the three months I’ll be spending interning at KORI. I’ve come here from Washington D.C., where I study at American University, but my journey truly began in Albania, the place that shaped my childhood and my curiosity about the world. I’m studying International Relations with minors in Economics and Arabic, all driven by a fascination with development and how strong communities can transform people’s futures.
That curiosity is exactly what led me to KORI. Throughout my studies, I’ve learned how essential community is—how real, hands‑on support can build confidence, opportunity and belonging. When I found KORI, I saw an organisation living out the values I’ve been studying for years. Its mission to support young people and strengthen communities in the UK felt like the perfect place to learn, contribute and witness theory put into action.
As I start this internship, I hope to absorb everything I can about community‑building in practice. But I also hope to give something back—to contribute my own experiences, perspectives and energy to KORI’s already powerful work. Whether it’s strengthening existing programmes or helping expand the organisation’s network, I’m eager to play a part in something meaningful.
I’m grateful to be here, and I can’t wait to see how this experience shapes me—and how I can contribute to KORI’s story along the way.
